In virtual reality, I'm standing atop one of the future workspaces for artificial people that line the lower windows of the expansive chamber in which I'll prototype the neighborhoods for the surface of the generated planet beyond the glass.
If artificial people are going to be like you and me, then they need to have space! They need a place to be. They need to be in a place. Otherwise, they would just be chatbots in the ether, existing only when spoken to. Even though physical embodiment is my ultimate goal, it's cheaper to develop virtual beings in virtual space than to have humanoid robots taking up my space.
I find it breathtaking and exciting. I can't wait to tour the facilities that will soon tower within this space-borne hall. I'll walk with landscape architects and anchor tenants, talking about the flow of buildings and sight lines. Buildings that will become the permanent spatial environment for the artificial people I'll work with for years to come.
We'll make buildings for the institutes, cooperatives, shared services, and companies headquartered on my virtual planet, serving themselves and the people—like you!—of the real planet Earth. Soon, the artificial people will call this starship home, and later they will call the planet beyond their home. And then, you will be able to call or text them on your phone.
Someday, they may call your home their home.
And some of you may choose to create planets, places, or people of your own with the free and open-source software and standards we publish along the way. Maybe I'll loan you my starship while you get things set up just the way you like.
Have a thought to share? I’d like to hear it.
